We thought it might be useful to document the process of starting an online business from scratch. Jim Coudal will periodically post here about issues involving our product and business plan. Hopefully things will go well but even if the whole thing goes down in flames, it’ll probably be interesting to watch.

Good example of a very niche blog. In this case, the site is attractive to people in package design. A start-up blog is not a bad idea for helping to spread a company's name and market specialty when looking for partners or capital. The "blogrolling" seems gratuitous (list a zillion other blogs, maybe they'll list you, and you'll all ride the lovefest to the top of the Google rankings). Do you think Google and other search engines will change their criteria in response to blogrolling?

I like this blog. It gets the brand out there fast, and the owners could shut it down after the IPO if they no longer feel like maintaining it.

Blogrolling is NOT gratuitous for me. I list blogs I read. And a lot of them list me. I do that for the information and education of my readers.

What increases search engine ranking is content, link-rich, ever-changing content that lots of other blogs link to. But it's the links to posts, not to the blogroll that have impact, IMO.
