Re: Re: The Art of Listening
by
Steve O'Keefe
Wow -- AMEN to the PR Diva. Yes, there is a difference between life and PR. Maybe we should do a seminar on that?
I've just spent the last two hours trying to follow the pointers here, set-up an RSS feed reader at Bloglines, find some blogs at PubSub and IceRocket, add them to my feed, and see what happens. Lots of signing-up, creating passwords, checking e-mail confirmations, unchecking "may we spam you" boxes, and agreeing to terms of service I never read.
The result? The first article I got was on Japanese octopus porn. Those were not my chosen keywords. Yes, it all sounds easy, but no, even for the tech savvy, it is NOT easy to set up a precise blog monitoring system that excludes all the junk you don't want without missing any of the stuff you really want.
You can say it's difficult but worth it, but if one more person tells me it's easy to monitor blogs I am going to SCREAM. I've been monitoring Usenet Newsgroups for 12 years now and it's a piece of cake compared to blog filtering.
