Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: PR's Communication Models and the Network

Elizabeth,
That's a great question. I'd love to see a study. All I have seen is what the end results are from a marketing perspective. I just had a long conversation yesterday with a B2B marketing communications manager whose data show that asking visitors to identify themselves results in more sales and faster conversion. Before we asked people to register for "premium" content on our websites we gave it away free. The problem was, with an engineered product, there is both an art and a science to selecting the best solution, and that requires more experience than most buyers have without some guidance. The sooner our engineers are able to enter into the dialog, the better they are able to help people come up with a solution that will work best for their process. If the process is already engineered before they contact us, the available solutions may be more constrained. The bottom line, I believe, is that truly collaborative communication cannot be conducted anonymously. But hey, let's see some studies and maybe we'll learn something new.
Thanks for leading the discussion this week!
Don
